Urban Design Architects are in THE TOP 15 ARCHITECTURE PRACTICES REFERENCED ON THE URBAN MELBOURNE PROJECT DATABASE

https://urban.melbourne/design/2015/07/29/top-15-architecture-practices-referenced-urban-melbourne-project-database

Architects. They’re the glue in the development process: interpreting, balancing and binding the various capitalist, creative and regulatory inclinations, goals and motivations. This special role that architects play ensures there’s quite a lot of them if a city is pivoting toward a medium and high density development future like Melbourne is.

Our project database has over 200 different firms that are linked to at least one project. The following list looks at the architecture firms who are most frequently referenced.

Together they are responsible for 39% of all projects and the raw numbers as listed in the Data Portal are 315 out of a total 805 projects at time of writing.

Fast fact: the top five referenced firms are responsible for an eye-popping 33% of all dwellings (30,000 out of 91,000) listed across all the various project phases on the database.

Bella Apartments – All sold, core up to level 7 complete, podium structure complete

Bella Apartments located in the thriving heart of Southbank and the Crown precinct provide residents with access to some of the best dining, shopping and entertainment facilities in Melbourne.

This stylish, bold urban design statement comprises 221 apartments, 2 retail tenancies, car and bicycle parking.

Each apartment is carefully planned with balconies and floor to ceiling windows, maximizing views of Melbourne CBD to the North East and St Kilda to Williamstown to the South.

Balcony panels to the North facade comprise glass panels in a combination of clear, grey, and aquamarine glass. This allows the occupiers expansive city views whilst maintaining a degree of privacy. The overall look of the building is high quality, interesting, and colourful.

The free-form podium treatment blends a colour wave of aquamarine balcony spandrel glass cascading down from the apartment tower to the podium which represents a pool where the central panels are arranged in a random pattern to represent splashing water. The 3 dimensional folded metal panels coloured in blues, aquamarine, and silver are suspended over a rectilinear horizontal bar grid to allow transparency through the podium car park. The dynamic treatment brings the facade and podium together with a unified sculptural cascading water theme, well suited to this bustling inner city location.

Locksley Road – Planning Permit Issued

A contemporary take on an apartment building three minutes walk from Eaglemont Village and railway station. The form of the proposal is designed to blend with the local traditional built forms of pitched roofs, face clinker brick and render.

The buildings are carefully recessed into the slope of the land to minimise the apparent height of the walls and roof form. Attic style top floors within pitched roofs contribute to the established character of the area and provides interest and articulation of the roof forms. Extensive landscaping and generous building setbacks enhance the garden setting of this apartment development.

Carrum & Camira Streets – Planning Permit Issued

This development provides 19 affordable townhouse accommodations in an existing middle ring suburb close to Chadstone Shopping Centre. Typical purchasers are first home buyers or investors. The project contributes to the better utilisation of scarce land and infrastructure resources by providing a strategic increase in density in an inner suburban area close to amenities and transport.

Private courtyards offer ground floor landscaped space with car parking and storage in a basement. The design inspiration draws on an interpretation of inner city row housing providing a variety of roof forms and balcony details. The built form is articulated in a contemporary manner, and references local neighbourhood materials and finishes.
